Are you finally done with your investment banking course? If the answer is yes, you must be looking forward to the next step which is applying for a job. In all job applications, you'll need to pass the interview before getting accepted. It is going to be hard to impress the interviewer as you never know what the person is looking for. There are interviewers who are looking for certain skills while there are some who are looking for a good personality. Thus, you must show that you are more than qualified to take the job. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Demonstrate Knowledge Even if you're applying for an entry-level position, show them you're already familiar with investment banking. After all, you've taken a course about investment banking so you must know basic knowledge about it. They don't expect you to know everything right away so make sure to show them what you already know and they will take it from there. Mention all the things you know when they ask the question "Why should we hire you?" There is no doubt they will be impressed by your knowledge. Of course, don't fail to mention that you're eager to know more and you're willing to be trained. All companies love applicants who show the willingness to learn more things whether it is about their company or about the industry itself. Research about Accountancy If you don't have prior knowledge about accounting, now is the time to research about it. The interviewer will surely ask several questions about it. One thing to research is the different types of financial statements. On the other hands, the interviewer will be impressed when she finds out you've done your homework. It may even be a great idea to solve a problem with accounting. There is no doubt accounting plays a major part in the investment banking industry. Thus, all people who work in this industry should know a thing or two about it no matter what the position is. Wear a Smile The interviewer won't be in the mood to interview you when you're wearing a frown on your face. You can't blame yourself if you're not in the mood to smile because you may be nervous. However, that doesn't mean you can't try. Besides, a smile would go a long way in getting you accepted for the job. No matter what happens in the interview, never remove that smile off of your face. With the above tips in mind, it is time to confidently march into the interview. Of course, it won't be smart to be too confident. When the interviewer notices you're overconfident, the person won't hesitate to reject your application. In this industry, it's important, to be honest right from the start. Remember, the interviewer most likely did her research about you too. Thus, when she catches you lying, that won't be a good start. She knows you're just trying to impress her but it won't be good for your reputation. |
